PATRIOTS PEN

Patriot's Pen

The 2025-26 theme is:
"How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?"

The VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest encourages middle school students in grades 6-8 to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW.  Each year, nearly 68,800 students in grades 6-8 enter this youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1.4 million in state and national awards.

The VFW Post 6192 Patriot’s Pen program is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students (2025-26 academic year) who attend Westwood Regional Middle School.  Local prizes will be awarded as follows:  1st place - $300, 2nd place - $200, 3rd place - $100.  The first-place winner will be eligible to compete for additional monetary awards at the regional, state, and national levels.
